Architect
Zvi Hecker will talk about his award-winning Jewish Community School
in Berlin at the University of Virginia School of Architecture on
Friday, Oct.19. His lecture, at 5 p.m. in Campbell Hall, Room 153,
is titled "House of the Book."
Hecker,
born in Poland, moved to Israel in 1950. He studied architecture
and engineering in Krakow and Israel and studied painting at the
Avni Academy of Art in Tel Aviv. His work has been exhibited in
New York, Tel Aviv, Florence, Jerusalem, Vienna, Kiev and Berlin
and he represented Israel in the Venice Biennale in 1966, 1999 and
2000.
His
recent architecture projects include the Spiral Apartment House
in Ramat Gan, Israel and the Army Museum in Jerusalem, the City
Center in Bucharest, the Holocaust Memorial in Berlin and the Ansaldo
Museum in Milan.
He
is the recipient of numerous honors including the 1999 Rechter Prize
for Architecture in Tel Aviv.
