WHERE: In
front of Fayerweather Hall, Rugby Road
Inspired
by the title of the first chapter in Herman Melvilles "Moby
Dick," William Bennetts 25 by 22-foot sculpture titled Loomings
will be installed in front of Fayerweather Hall from Wednesday,
March 20 through Tuesday, April 30.
In
an artist statement, Bennett describes his steel, wood, fabric,
water and earth sculpture as a metaphor of travel, "capable of journeying
beyond the horizon to memories of time and place where our collective
identity still, in part, resides."
Bennett
created the piece for a riverfront exhibit in New York City and
last summer it was exhibited at the Whaling Museum in New Bedford,
Mass.
An
opening reception will be held Friday, March 22, 5 to 7 p.m.
