U.Va.
Workshop To Help Local Organizations Become Part Of Commonwealth
of Virginia Campaign
February
12, 2002--
The University of Virginia will hold a free workshop -- "How
to Apply for Inclusion in the Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign"
-- for area nonprofit organizations interested in participating
in the Commonwealth of Virginia
Campaign.
It
will be held Monday, Feb. 25, from 3 to 5 p.m. in the South Meeting
Room of Newcomb Hall. During the workshop, representatives of the
state CVC office, Piedmont Virginia Community College, and U.Va.
will describe the steps nonprofit organizations must complete to
be eligible to participate in the campaign. They also will offer
tips on how organizations can promote awareness of their services
before the 2002 campaign begins in the fall.
Authorized
by the governor, the campaign provides an opportunity for state
employees each fall to donate to their favorite charities. To be
included in the campaign, charities must complete a screening process
that involves providing evidence of qualifying services, non-discriminatory
and non-political practices, and administrative overhead under 25
percent.
"People
who want to help those in need should make sure their favorite charities
know about the workshop," said Ida Lee Wootten, interim director
of U.Va.s Community Relations Office, which is sponsoring
the workshop. "Charities can increase their donations by participating
in the Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign."
Nonprofit
organizations must apply for inclusion in the 2002 campaign by April
30. Information about the campaign can be found on the state CVC
Web site at www.cvc.vipnet.org
or U.Va.s site, www.virginia.edu/cvc/
