The
Young Friends of the University of Virginia Art Museum are sponsoring
a multi-arts family festival at the museum on Sunday, May 5 from
2 to 4:30 p.m. The event is in conjunction with the special exhibition
"Treasures from the Earth: Art of Southwestern Native America"
on view at the museum through June 9.
Participants
will be able to discuss the various artworks in the exhibit. A hands-on
workshop will provide children, youth and adults the chance to make
an artwork inspired by the exhibition.
Stations
will be set up for weaving, making jewelry and painting pre-fired
pottery with Native American designs. The creations will reflect
themes associated with the art of Southwestern Native America, such
as the use of patterns and symmetrical designs as a way to connect
with nature.
There
will also be storytelling and traditional Native-American music.
Refreshments will be provided.
The
festival is free and is appropriate for adults and children above
the age of 3. Parking will be available in the Culbreth Theater
lot.
