Pulitzer-Winning Poet
Henry Taylor Will Read At U.Va. Feb. 28
February 14, 2002-- Pulitzer
Prize-winning poet and University of Virginia alumnus Henry Taylor
will return to the University to read from his work Thursday, Feb.
28. His reading at 8 p.m. in the U.Va. Bookstore is free and open
to the public.
A 1965 College of Arts and Sciences
graduate, Taylor is professor of literature and co-director of the
graduate program in creative writing at American University in Washington,
D.C.
His third collection of poems, "The
Flying Change," received the Pulitzer in 1986. Other highly acclaimed
poetry books include "The Horse Show at Midnight," "An Afternoon
of Pocket Billiards," "Understanding Fiction: Poems 1986 - 1996,"
and "Brief Candles."
Taylor is also an award-winning translator.
His poetry translations from Bulgarian, French, Hebrew, Italian,
and Russian have appeared in many periodicals and anthologies. He
has also published translations from Greek and Roman classical drama.
His reading is sponsored by the U.Va.
