"New
Work" by Sara Hutson, a student in the Aunspaugh Fifth Year
Program in Studio Art at the University of Virginia, incorporates
a combination of wood and welded steel, materials chosen to show
strength and vulnerability. The exhibition of the artists
work, on view at the Main Street Market Gallery, Monday, May 13
through Saturday, May 18, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., deals with issues of
scale, color and texture. Hutsons work is about transformation
and reflects her interest in changing the physicality of materials:
transforming steel plate into transparent lace-like surfaces; shaving
wood into small, delicate organic feminine shapes. She also incorporates
personal symbols and universal themes of anxiety, alienation, identity,
sexuality and love.
A reception
will be held in the gallery on Saturday, May 18, 5 p.m.
