The Second Annual Lighting of the Lawn at the University of Virginia will be held Dec. 5 from 7 to 9 p.m. Basketball coach Pete Gillen will speak to an expected turnout of 4,000 U.Va. and community members at the ceremony. Holiday carols will be sung before the lighting.

The first Lighting of the Lawn took place last December and consisted of 21,600 white light bulbs attached to about two miles of wire wound around the pavilion columns and the top railing of the balconies and balustrades, as well as outlining the columns at the Rotunda.

All academic schools, with the exception of the School of Architecture, will host informal receptions in the Lawn pavilions for members of their student bodies and faculty between 7 and 8:30 p.m.
