The Lawn, at the University of Virginia
The
Second Annual Lighting of the Lawn at the University of Virginia
will be held Dec. 5 from 7 to 9 p.m. Basketball coach Pete Gillen
will speak to an expected turnout of 4,000 U.Va. and community members
at the ceremony. Holiday carols will be sung before the lighting.
The
first Lighting of the Lawn took place last December and consisted
of 21,600 white light bulbs attached to about two miles of wire
wound around the pavilion columns and the top railing of the balconies
and balustrades, as well as outlining the columns at the Rotunda.
All
academic schools, with the exception of the School
of Architecture, will host informal receptions in the Lawn pavilions
for members of their student bodies and faculty between 7 and 8:30
p.m.
