Local Government
Officials To Gather At U.Va. Aug. 11-13
August 1, 2002-- The Weldon
Cooper Center for Public Service will host the 51st annual
Local Government Officials Conference at the University of Virginia
Aug. 11 13. County supervisors, sheriffs, treasurers, commissioners
of revenue, court clerks and voter and general registrars from around
the Commonwealth will participate.
John
Hager, assistant to Gov. Mark R. Warner for Commonwealth Preparedness,
will be the keynote speaker on Aug. 11 from 5 to 6 p.m. at Old Cabell
Hall. Attorney General Jerry Kilgore will speak on terrorism from
8 to 9 a.m. on Aug. 13, also at Old Cabell Hall. The Hager and Kilgore
talks will be open to the public.
Conference
attendees will assemble by specialties at various locations on Grounds
to discuss new legislation, stress management, the impact of federal
election reforms, working with the Internet, taxes and effective
leadership. The conference sessions will be restricted to members
of the sponsoring organizations.

of Virginia, Treasurers Association of Virginia, Virginia Association
of Counties, Virginia Association of Local Elected Constitutional
Officers, Virginia Court Clerks Association, Voter Registrars Association
of Virginia, Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service, Virginia Institute
of Government and U.Va.
Organizers
anticipate about 1,000 participants, approximately the same number
as have attended the past several years.
