The Lorna Sundberg International Center at the University of Virginia
will feature the “Nordic Lands and Christmas Celebration”
on Dec. 6 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the International Residential College.
The festive celebration of Christmas traditions in Sweden, Norway,
Iceland, Demark and Finland will include caroling, creating ornaments
and smorgasbord-style food tasting. The Charlottesville Scandinavian
Group is cosponsoring the Nordic celebration.
Each month of the academic year, a different country or region
is featured during First Fridays. The event introduces students
to a variety of cultures by sampling foods, and enjoying native
dances and other cultural and educational activities. The next event
is scheduled for Feb. 7.
The center promotes intercultural exchange through various educational
and social programs. Additionally it has become a forum for exploring
the world’s cultures and discovering the rich diversity within
the international community of students, scholars, faculty and local
residents, said director Suzanne Louis.
