"Ten
Works By Ten Painters: A Portfolio Of Screenprints" Opens At
The University Of Virginia Art Museum April 6 March 26, 2002-- WHAT: Exhibition: "Ten Works by Ten Painters: A Portfolio of Screenprints" WHEN: Saturday, April 6 through Sunday, June 23 WHERE: U.Va. Art Museum, Rugby Road American printmaking was revolutionized in the 1960s when specialized print workshops published and printed graphic editions of artists’ work. This development conveyed the aesthetic of the painter in an effortlessly professional work of art that was available to many collectors. The exhibition, "Ten Works by Ten Painters: A Portfolio of Screenprints," which opens at the University of Virginia Art Museum on Saturday, April 6 and runs through Sunday, June 23 features screenprints by Stuart Davis, Robert Indiana, Elsworth Kelly, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Motherwell, George Ortman, Larry Poons, Ad Reinhardt, Frank Stella and Andy Warhol. The portfolio "Ten Works by Ten Painters" was published by the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford, Conn., setting an example that would be followed by many other art institutions. The 10 prints in the exhibit are part of the museum’s permanent collection.
