U.Va. Sessions To Illustrate Bond Referendum Needs
September 6, 2002--
In anticipation of the statewide referendum on Nov. 5., the
University of Virginia will hold briefing sessions for media over
two weeks in September to talk about the bond issue and to tour
parts of the campus.
The
$900 million bond issue includes $846 million for construction and
renovation projects at public colleges and universities around the
commonwealth. We believe providing citizens with as much information
as possible about the referendum will help them make a responsible
decision at the polls.
We
would like to invite members of your organization to one of the
sessions. Dates are Sept. 18, 19, 25 and 26, starting at 10 a.m.
and 1 p.m. each day. The sessions will last two hours, combining
an overview discussion with a walking tour of several buildings
included in the bond package. University officials, faculty and
students will be on hand to provide a variety of perspectives.
We’re
hoping to keep groups small and the sessions informal. At noon,
we will provide lunch and the chance to talk with key university
officials. So plan on staying late or coming early, depending on
the session.
If
you would like to join us, please indicate below the date and time
that is convenient as well as the number of participants (photographers
and editorial writers are welcome). Also, please mark a backup selection
in case we need to consolidate sessions. If you are unable to attend
but would like a press packet, please indicate that as well.
We
would like to hear from you by Thursday, Sept. 12, so please phone,
fax or email us with your response.
