U.Va.’s
Artspace Committee Exhibition Features Recent Works Of The Virginia
Stone Carvers Guild
October 23, 2003 --
The Artspace Committee of the University Programs Council
is pleased to announce the opening of an exhibition of stone sculptures
by
the Virginia Stone Carvers Guild. Artists participating in the
show are Mike Firkaly, Al Francis, Bob Kretsinger, Chris MacAndrew,
Jeff Thruston, Kathy Troyer, Susanna Williams and Suzanne Yeaman.
The
exhibition opens in the Newcomb Hall Art Gallery on Monday, Nov.
3, and continues
through Jan. 9.
The
show, “Recent Works by The Virginia Stone Carvers
Guild,” illustrates
modern artists’ interpretation of a centuries-old art form.
The
newly formed group, Virginia Stone Carvers, is continuing the
tradition of stone-carving
in both representational and abstract forms. Some members
of the
group are established professionals, some converts from other media, and
all are committed to artistic expression through stone.
There
will be an opening reception Thursday, Nov 6, from 5-8 p.m.
