2003 To Feature Nickel Creek, Others

SPRINGFEST 2003, sponsored by the University Programs Council
WHEN:
Saturday, April 5, noon – 6:30 p.m.
WHERE:
University of Virginia’s Madison Bowl
Springfest
2003 will feature Grammy Award-winning country/folk band Nickel
Creek, along with Welbilt and Graham Colton. Other performers will
include Majahkamo, Cannonball Coming and the Benjy Davis Project,
all playing at the University of Virginia’s Madison Bowl,
located between Madison Lane and Rugby Road.
In
addition to live music, there will be a Gusburger-eating contest,
a rock-climbing wall and obstacle course, a tie-dye station, giveaways,
gift certificates and free food.
The
University Programs Council sponsors the free event. It is open
to the public. Nickel Creek’s “This Side” received
a 2003 Grammy for best contemporary folk album, and earned Grammy
nominations for best bluegrass album and country instrumental and
best country instrumental song (“Smoothie Song”). The
band was named as one of the five music innovators of the millennium
in Time Magazine, has performed on the “Tonight Show with
Jay Leno,” and has been among the top 20 on Billboard Magazine’s
country album chart.
