The University of Virginia Art Museum’s Ninth Annual Art Auction, “The Four Elements.” will feature works by artists on the theme of the four elements: water, earth air and fire. Hosted by the Young Friends of the University museum, the auction on Saturday, Dec. 4, will feature a cocktail party and silent art auction. Attendees will have the opportunity to bid on the works of 40 artists, including: Tjasa Owen, Christian Peri, Judy McLeod, Cary Brown-Epstein, Susan Bacik, Anne Chesnut, John Borden Evans, Gray Ibbeken, Akemi Ohira, Virginia Paul, Jen Van Winkle, Edith Arbaugh, Ellen Susi and Nancy Wallace.
Proceeds from this year’s auction will help fund educational programs for children, such as scholarships for at-risk youth attending the museum’s arts academy, Summer Arts @ the Museum, and the Spring Family. The summer scholarships provide the opportunity for children to work with nationally recognized artists in a museum setting. Last year, the Young Friends donated $12,000 from the auction to Summer Arts and the Spring Family Festival.
Sponsored by Jefferson Vineyards, Feast!, Albemarle magazine and Sprint, this year’s auction is black-tie optional. To reserve tickets ($50 each, $45 for members) call (434) 979-0818.
