Works by some 110 local school children highlight the "Summer Collage" exhibit, which opens at the University of Virginia Art Museum with a reception on Sunday, Aug. 15, from 2 to 5 p.m.

The show features roughly 175 works of art, created during the Summer Arts @ the Museum program. The students who produced these works, rising fourth - to 12th-graders, participated in one of three two-week sessions featuring a collage of multidisciplinary studios in the visual and performing arts. More than 40 students received full scholarships to the program based on their financial and learning needs.

The exhibit will include an installation of 60 “Memory and Memento Collage Boxes,” designed during a workshop with collage artist Judy McLeod; abstract and realistic paintings on canvas and paper; photo montage and digital images created during a workshop in the University of Virginia Digital Media Lab; life-size flower sculptures created from wire, paper and found objects; and a video installation of a “Dance Collage” workshop, led by Prospect Dance Group.

Summer Arts @ the Museum is made possible with support from Bama Works Fund through the Charlottesville-Albemarle Community Foundation, Yong Friends of the Museum, Thomas L. Piper, Jr. Education Endowment, MSW Foundation, the Rotary Club of Charlottesville, S. Sonjia Smith, Gravity Lounge, Whole Foods, Music Resource Center, Cavalier Produce, Old Dominion Charter, and Sam's Club.
