Art Museum Begins Fall Series Of Gallery Talks And Docent Conversations

Throughout the fall the University of Virginia Art Museum
will offer a new series of talks by museum docents, faculty, curators,
artists and graduate students that relate to special exhibits on
view in the museum.
Docent
conversations begin Sunday, Sept. 5, at 2 p.m. The program
is free and participants should meet in the museum's lobby. The
docent conversation series continues throughout the fall semester
at 2 p.m. on these Sundays: Sept. 12, 19, and 26; Oct. 17 and
31; Nov. 7 and 21; and Dec. 19.
In
addition, the museum invites the public to attend free gallery
talks, beginning Sept. 4. The
talks are held on Saturdays and
occasional Sundays, with some repeating
on Tuesdays. The schedule is as follows:
- Saturday,
Sept. 4, 2 p.m.: "Emmet
Gowin Photographs" by photographer
and McIntire Department of Art Professor Bill Wylie
- Tuesday,
Sept. 14, 12:30 p.m.: "Red & Black Figure Pottery" by
McIntire of Art Professor Tyler-Jo Smith
- Saturday,
Sept. 18, 2 p.m.: "Ragamala Pages" by McIntire Department
of Art Professor Daniel Ehnbom
- Saturday,
Sept. 25, 2 p.m. and repeated Tuesday, Sept. 28, at 12:30 p.m.: "Sally
Mann and Southern Landscape Photography" by McIntire Department
of Art graduate student Elizabeth Birdsall
- Sunday,
Oct. 3 and Oct. 10, 2 p.m.: "The Museum: Conditions and
Spaces" by
McIntire Department of Art Professor David Summers
- Saturday,
Oct. 23, 2 p.m., and repeated Tuesday, Oct. 26, 12:30 p.m.: "Whiteness" by
McIntire Department of Art Graduate student Rebecca Schoenthal
- Saturday,
Oct. 24, 2 p.m.: " museum curator Stephen
Margulies on
the exhibit "Lifeline"
- Saturday,

Nov. 30, 12:30 p.m.: McIntire Department of Art Graduate Fellow
Elizabeth Hahn on the exhibit "Lifeline"
- Sunday,
