U.Va. Students Initiate Relief Effort In Aftermath Of Hurricane Katrina
September 1, 2005 --
University of Virginia students from the New Orleans area, with support of friends and Virginia students from other areas of the country, have initiated a relief effort to aid those impacted by Hurricane Katrina.
As part of the overall initiative, the Virginia Department of Athletics is supporting a fund raising effort at Scott Stadium before and during Saturday night's season-opening football game with Western Michigan University. Students with "UVA Students KARE" (Katrina Aid and Relief Effort) will be positioned by each entrance to the stadium to accept cash donations and checks only in support of the relief effort. All money raised will be contributed to the American Red Cross.
The gates to the stadium open at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
