Section Of Massie Road To Reopen Tomorrow
U.Va.’s North Grounds Connector project slated for completion in May 2006
August 18, 2005 --
Massie Road between Darden Circle and Faulkner Drive, on the North Grounds section of the University of Virginia, will reopen for traffic at 6 p.m. on Aug. 19, marking the end of major construction of the intersection of Massie Road and North Grounds Connector.
A temporary traffic plan will be put into place at the Massie Road/North Grounds Connector intersection until final completion of the Connector in May 2006. Stop signs will be used to slow traffic through the new intersection, and turning lanes to the Connector will be closed.
Temporary signage will be used along Massie Road to warn motorists and pedestrians of the changed traffic pattern. The final traffic pattern, which includes a new traffic signal, will be implemented with the opening of the North Grounds Connector Road.
The one-half mile, $4.1 million North Grounds Connector will be the new main entrance to the North Grounds as well as providing highway access for the John Paul Jones Arena, which is scheduled to be completed in June 2006.
