March 15, 2006 — Construction of the Carter-Harrison Research Building at the Medical
Center will disrupt
some pedestrian and vehicle traffic over the next several
months, starting in March. The building will be an addition to
the south side of the existing MR-5 building and will connect
to Crispell Drive in front of the South Parking Garage.
An underground vivarium will occupy the now closed M-11
parking lot between MR-4 and MR-5. Construction will take about 28 months to complete.
A construction fence will contain the entire area between
MR-4 and MR-5 and between Lane Road and Crispell Drive.
The paved sidewalk between the South Garage and the hospital
loading dock will not be available once the fence is in
place. South Garage users are asked to use the route across
the McLeod Hall terrace and through MR-5 via the second-floor
link.
Starting this month, underground electrical installation
will require excavation on Crispell Drive between McLeod
Hall and the South Parking Garage. Both entrances to the
South Garage will remain open, but access will be narrowed
to one lane. Flagmen will provide traffic control.
Also from March to May, there will be utility work in Lane
Road near the MR-5 and Jordan Hall loading docks, disrupting
access to the docks. Disruptions will be coordinated with
loading dock managers.
A private developer also will be constructing a two-tier parking garage
and 50-unit condominium at the corner of Monroe Lane, Crispell Drive and
15th Street.
