May 10, 2006 -- Last year, nearly 2,000 volunteers
from local businesses
and organizations reported to work sites at local nonprofit
organizations and public schools to tackle volunteer projects.
Volunteers made a difference at 200 project sites in
the Charlottesville,Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa
and
Nelson communities. More than 690 of the volunteers were
U.Va. employees who worked at 86 of these sites.
Once again, U.Va. faculty and staff
can join area volunteers
for the 2006 Day of Caring to serve the community in
meaningful ways on a wide variety of projects — from
clerical
assistance, to working with children or seniors, to
painting,
construction and landscaping.
U.Va. volunteers form a team and designate
team leaders, who will be able to choose a project for
their team.
To volunteer or for more information,
academic division employees should contact Miriam Rushfinn
of U.Va.
Community Relations at 924-3165 or
mrushfinn@virginia.edu; Medical Center employees should
contact Lindsay Neese of Health System Community Relations
at 924-5458 or lyn3z@virginia.edu.
