July 13, 2006 -- December 2006 is the
announced launch date
for a new electronic
procurement system, UVa
Marketplace, that will
allow users to browse,
search, view product
images, comparison shop
and buy from a large
number of U.Va.’s most
commonly used and
preferred supplier catalogs.
The online shopping
environment, provided by
SciQuest, will seamlessly
link U.Va.’s Integrated
System into the commonwealth’s
Electronic
Procurement Program
(eVA) in a way that meets
the business needs of the
University as well as the
e-procurement requirements
of the state.
The UVa Marketplace
will offer numerous benefits.
A single sign-on will
access multiple Web
catalogs and line-item
purchasing details. Better
pricing and supplier
diversity will result from
the easier access to
negotiated discount pricing,
to preferred suppliers
and to featured SWAM
vendors. Order processing
time will decrease as
orders are transmitted
electronically, with no
manual intervention.
Large-volume vendors will
use electronic invoicing,
decreasing the number of
invoices that must be
manually handled by
Accounts Payable.
Plans call for the
system to debut with 50
online vendor catalogs,
10 of which will be certified
as woman- or minority-owned vendors. To
follow progress of the UVa
Marketplace project, visit
the project Web site at
www.procurement.
