July 14, 2006 -- The University of Virginia Children’s
Hospital will sponsor a free health and fitness fair for
children and teens on Sat., July 15, from 10 a.m.
to 3 p.m. at the Covenant Upper School, on 175 Hickory
Street (from 5th St. extended, left on Stagecoach Rd.,
left on Oakhill Dr., right on Hickory St.). The Boys & Girls
Club of Charlottesville/Albemarle will host the fair, which
features growth screening, blood pressure checks, asthma
screening, scoliosis screening, FAMIS and Medicaid support
information, dental information and sports physicals, all
free of charge.
U.Va. Children’s Hospital pediatric cardiologists
Dr. Nancy McDaniel and Dr. Karen Rhueban will attend the
event
and will be available for interviews around noon. U.Va.
Health System Chief Operations Officer Dr. Margaret Van
Bree will
also be available for interviews in support of children’s
health.
National Board of Governors of the Boys and Girls Clubs
of American 2006 chairman-elect E.V. “Rick” Goings,
who is also former chairman of the clubs and chief executive
officer of Tupperware Brands Corporation, will also be
available for interviews.
Free healthy snacks, lunch, fruits and vegetables will
be provided to all participants. Information on local community
resources will also be available to the public. Kids who
participate in the Health Passport Challenge, which includes
games, sports, and fitness challenges, will receive prizes
and awards. The first 50 participants will receive a
free membership to the Boys & Girls Club of Charlottesville/
Albemarle in 2007. All children under 18 must be accompanied
by a parent or guardian, and sports physicals require an
appointment.
