MEDIA ADVISORY Contact: Katherine Jackson The University of Virginia Health Sciences Center is sponsoring a lecture series focusing on health issues related to African American Women. The lectures will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 632 W. Main St. on these dates. April 21. Evelyn Nyonga and Holly Edwards, registered nurses at U.Va. will talk about "Diabetes in African American Women-- Methods of Prevention." May 19. "Uterine Fibroids and Other Sources of Pelvic Pain" will be discussed by Lisa King, M.D. King is a resident in U.Va.'s department of obstetrics and gynecology. June 16. "The Impact of HIV/AIDS in African American Women and Prevention." Edwards along with registered nurse Cora Johnson will lead that discussion. The nurses are members of the Charlottesville Black Nurses Association, Inc. All seminars are open to the public. Bus service will be available to transport U.Va. students to and from the event. Shuttles will pick up passengers between 6 and 6:30 p.m. in front of the Chemistry Building on McCormick Road. The Charlottesville community is welcome to attend and participate in the series.
