LOCAL REPRESENTATIVES WILL REVIEW, PREDICT EDUCATIONAL ISSUES FACING VIRGINIA DURING APRIL 21 TOWN MEETING CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., April 18 -- Local school children, teachers and administrators will join area legislators and faculty and students from the University of VirginiaÕs Curry School of Education in discussing a broad range of education topics during a town meeting Friday, April 21, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. in Ruffner Hall auditorium. Among the K-12 and higher education issues considered during the 1995 legislative session of the Virginia General Assembly that Sen. Ed Robb (R-25th District) and Del. Mitch Van Yahres (D-57th District) will review are standards of learning, charter schools and the role of the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia. The representatives will also offer their views on how such issues as family-life education, school prayer, inclusion of special education students, and Goals 2000 will fare in future legislative sessions. Participants in the town meeting, sponsored by the Virginia School-University Partnership, will be able to ask questions and voice opinions. The event is free and open to the public.
