UNIVERSITY TO HOST PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS ON JEFFERSON'S BIRTHDAY CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., April 10 -- Approximately 1,400 newly accepted students and their parents will mark Thomas Jefferson's 253rd birthday April 13 at the University of Virginia while learning about U.Va.'s academic, social and architectural attributes. Birthday cake will be available as activities begin in U.Va.'s annual "Day on the Lawn," which offers prospective students a sampling of U.Va. life. The day will include faculty presentations, panel discussions, performances by musical groups and walking tours of the Grounds. As part of the day, "Spring Fling," activities that offer a taste of campus life to minority students, will be held. Minority students, who will be paired with U.Va. hosts, will participate in student-life discussions and attend social events as well. Sponsored by the Office of Admission, the "Day on the Lawn" will also provide families with information on financial aid, University services and housing options. In addition to the April 13 activities, the Admission Office is offering newly admitted students a series of panels throughout April. The panels allow families to ask current U.Va. students about academics, housing and campus organizations. ### April 9, 1996 FOR MORE INFORMATION contact the Admission Office at (804) 982-3200.
