PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT "POPULATION BOMB" AUTHOR PAUL EHRLICH TO SPEAK APRIL 17 Paul Ehrlich, professor of population studies at Stanford University and author of the classic book, "The Population Bomb," will make two public talks at the University of Virginia on Wednesday, April 17. From 11 a.m. to noon in the Rotunda, he will present a "Declaration of Interdependence," the latest in a continuing series of environmental declarations sponsored by U.Va. architecture dean William McDonough. From 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Ehrlich will lecture in McDonough's "Environmental Choices" class in Old Cabell Hall Auditorium. His Declaration of Interdependence will focus on "Seeking Environmental Security." Ehrlich will show how human population growth, patterns of consumption, uses of technology,the world food problem, global epidemic disease crisis, and military security are interrelated and suggest directions that must be taken to solve the predicament. In his Environmental Choices lecture he will speak on "Population and Carrying Capacity." Ehrlich will summarize the current population situation, relate it to the carrying capacity of Earth for human beings, and outline measures that he believes will be necessary to prevent problems.
