MEDIA ADVISORY GOV. GEORGE ALLEN, FORMER JUSTICE JOHN CHARLES THOMAS TO SPEAK AT U.VA. LAW SCHOOL'S CLAY HALL DEDICATION MAY 3 Gov. George F. Allen and former Virginia Supreme Court Justice John Charles Thomas will be among speakers at the dedication of the new Clay Hall main entrance building at the University of Virginia School of Law at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 3. Allen, a 1977 U.Va. law graduate, and Thomas, a 1974 graduate, will join several hundred alumni returning for Law Alumni Weekend May 2-4. Some 1,000 persons, including alumni and families, are expected to attend. Clay Hall, the southern connecting building in the new law school complex, is named after Buckner Clay, Sr., of Charleston, W.Va. His sons, Lyell and Buckner Clay, donated $2 million to the law school in honor of their father, a 1900 law alumnus. Caplin Pavilion, a formal assembly room located in Clay Hall and named for prominent tax attorney and law school alumnus Mortimer M. Caplin, also will be dedicated. Caplin is former U.S. Commissioner of Internal Revenue and a partner in the Washington, D.C., law firm Caplin & Drysdale. President John T. Casteen III and law dean Robert E. Scott will participate in the May 3 dedication ceremonies. The main dedication of the entire new Law Grounds complex will be held in November.
