PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS TO GAIN IMPRESSIONS OF U.VA. THROUGH "DAY ON THE LAWN," "SPRING FLING" CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., April 4 -- Approximately 1,700 newly accepted students and their families will learn about the University of Virginia during a "Day on the Lawn" on April 12. Through panel discussions and presentations by faculty and students, prospective students will gain an understanding of U.Va.'s academic, architectural and social attributes. Complementing the annual day for prospective first years will be "Spring Fling," a series of events April 10-12 for African-American students and their families. Paired with U.Va. hosts, the minority students will attend classes, visit academic departments and engage in panel discussions about campus life. About 250 minority students are expected. "'Day on the Lawn' represents a wonderful opportunity for prospective students and their families to learn U.Va.'s unique facets," said Scott Packer, assistant dean of admission. Sponsored by the Office of Admission, "Day on the Lawn" will provide families with information on financial aid, University services and housing options.
