ADVENTURE CHALLENGE ROPES COURSE PROGRAM OFFERS STUDENTS AN ALTERNATIVE TO FOXFIELD RACES CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., April 11 -- The University of Virginia's Department of Intramural-Recreational Sports will sponsor a "high ropes" course on Saturday, April 26, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Rain date: May 3). "U.Va.'s Ultimate Adventure!" will allow participants to experience one of the University's most unusual structures, the Adventure Challenge Program's (ACP) High Ropes Course. Some of the elements of the course range up to 70 feet off the ground, making it one of the highest rope courses on the east coast. It is located on an eight-acre wooded lot between Zehmer Hall and Observatory Hill off of Edgemont Road. Ropes courses, which have increased in popularity over the past five years, are often used by schools and corporations to promote team-building, risk-taking, goal-achievement and self confidence, according to Jay Roberts, event coordinator. "U.Va.'s Ultimate Adventure!" is a free event open to the University community and co sponsored by the Alcohol, Tobacco, and other Drugs Awareness Committee (ATOD) and the U.Va. Parent's Committee. It is designed as a challenging and fun alternative to attending the Foxfield Races. Interested individuals should register by picking up a free ticket at the U.Va. Intramural Recreational Sports Office in the Aquatic and Fitness Center, 450 Whitehead Road. ### April 10, 1997 For more information, contact Jay Roberts at (804) 924-3791 or 924-6115.
