April 23, 1998 Contact: Kathryn Ballenger (804) 924-0115 MEDIA ADVISORY PANEL PRESENTATION ON SCHOOL NURSING AND HEALTH A panel discussion on school nursing and the health needs of school children will be presented Wednesday, May 6, at the University of Virginia's McLeod Hall auditorium at 6 p.m. Panelists will include U.Va.Dean of Nursing Jeanette Lancaster, who will discuss current activities which U.Va. supports that advance school nursing and school-age health. Julie Novak, chair of the Albemarle County School Health Advisory Board and a certified pediatric nurse practitioner, will highlight the many health needs of school children and the impact school nurses have on health in the community. Frances Bonardi, vice president for hospital services at Martha Jefferson Hospital, will talk about current activities at MJH that support school nursing and school-age health. State Sen. Emily Couric will discuss current legislative issues related to children's health. The event recognizes National Nurse Day and is sponsored by the Beta Kappa Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau nursing society.
