93-08-23: Charles Taylor Named First Full-time Station Manager at WTJU-FM at U.VA. CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., Aug. 24 -- Charles W. (Chuck) Taylor III, a veteran announcer and a former program director with WTJU- FM, has been appointed as the University of Virginia-owned radio station's first full-time station manager. Taylor, who has taken an active role with the listener- supported, previously all-volunteer station since 1979, is the station's first paid administrator. The position is affiliated with the U.Va. Dean of Students Office. "Chuck Taylor has been deeply involved with WTJU's operations as a volunteer program manager, a member of the board of directors and a popular announcer," said associate dean of students Ronald Stump. "In his new position, he will provide management continuity for the station to help serve the central Virginia community with the highest quality programming." WTJU, 91.1 FM, has offered a diverse combination of rock, classical, jazz, folk and public affairs programs to the area since 1957. It is staffed by some 120 volunteers from the University and local community. Taylor, a native of Suffolk, Va., and a graduate of Elon College, was on the staff of the Albemarle County Parks and Recreation Department from 1977 until taking the U.Va. post this month. As an announcer, he has featured a wide range of music on the air and will continue to host a popular rock show as a volunteer. He is also a professional photographer specializing in music performance and live-event photography. Taylor said he planned to work with the University and Central Virginia community in the station's continuing effort to expand its listener base and public service activities. No major changes are planned in WTJU's non-commercial, alternative format and varied programming, he said. ### August 23, 1993 REPORTERS AND EDITORS: Taylor may be reached at WTJU-FM at (804) 924-0885.
