Medical Center's Junior Volunteer program. On Friday, August 25 from 12:30 to 1:30, an awards ceremony and pizza party will be held in the McKim Hall Auditorium to honor the volunteers. Each summer these young people offer an invaluable service to the hospital -- their time and energy -- during the months when many adult and university volunteers are unavailable, according to Susan Donovan, volunteer coordinator at U.Va. Medical Center. The Junior Volunteer program enables the hospital to continue providing important patient services while at the same time offering the teens a rewarding volunteer experience and a chance to explore health-related careers. The junior volunteers work at least 50 hours each during the summer in a variety of settings. Some assignments, such as flower delivery, the gift or snack shops, baby photos, or the information desks, offer the opportunity for a lot of contact with patients, families and staff. Others require more specialized work with children, such as the Child Care Center at Blue Ridge Hospital or the Children's Health Museum. Still others offer work in medical settings, such as the nursing units, surgical admissions or the pharmacy. If you plan to cover the awards ceremony, please contact Susan Donovan at 982-3259 or Marguerite Beck at 924-5679. ### August 21, 1995
