NEW CENTER FOR EXECUTIVE DEVELOPMENT PUTS FOCUS ON CUSTOMIZED TRAINING PROGRAMS CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., Aug. 13 -- The University of Virginia has expanded and consolidated its services addressing workforce needs into a new Center for Executive Development. Created July 1 in the Division of Continuing Education, the center provides a variety of customized programs, ranging from one-day workshops to week-long academies, to help corporations, professional associations and governmental agencies with their education and training needs. The center will focus on executive leadership development, providing sessions that enhance management skills and team building. Other areas in which the center offers educational services are engineering, environment, banking and health care. "The center expands U.Va.'s outreach into the private and public sectors by bringing together a team with in-depth knowledge of university and industry trends," said Cindy Orshek, center director. The team works collaboratively with U.Va. faculty and nationally recognized experts to provide help with strategic development, problem identification and decision-making. "The center prides itself on having a 'rapid-response team.' We can have proposals on the table within 24 hours," Orshek said. Team members provide programs that can be held at U.Va. in Charlottesville, at any of the division's six outreach centers in Virginia or on-site at local, national or international locations. The center also uses the latest in technology to provide programs. Sessions can be held through interactive video conferencing, broadcast via television or transmitted via satellite. Among the center's programs this fall are a five-day career-development session for military personnel, a two-week management- training session for federal workers and a credit course in organizational development for educators. ### August 12, 1997 For more information, contact the Center for Executive Development at (804) 982-5366 or http://www.virginia.edu/~contined.
