RELEASE ON RECEIPT U.VA. MEDICAL LIBRARY BRINGS OUTREACH PROGRAM TO DANVILLE CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., Dec. 21 -- The University of Virginia Claude Moore Health Sciences Library has received a $150,000 grant from the E. Stuart James Grant Charitable Trust of Danville in support of a medical librarian to work with health professionals and citizens in south central Virginia. The U.Va. librarian, who will be based in Danville, will plan and provide information services in partnership with Danville Regional Medical Center, the Pittsylvania/Danville Health District, the South-Central Area Health Education Center (AHEC) Program and public colleges and libraries in the area. New computer equipment and software, provided by the grant, will strengthen the medical information resources and services available at participating sites and help link area health professionals to community resources and to the Internet. "We're pleased that our medical center can assume a leadership role in expanding information services in this region in collaboration with the University of Virginia," said Larry DePriest, chief executive officer of the Danville Regional Medical Center. "We also hope to follow up with closer ties to U.Va. for such initiatives as continuing medical education and telemedicine." This is the Health Sciences Center's third community-based librarian working to identify and meet health care professionals' needs in rural areas of Virginia.
