DREAMING OF A PERFECT GIFT? NEW BOOKS MAY BE CAT'S MEOW Hunting for a book that will generate light-hearted discussion this holiday season? Two recent publications by University of Virginia faculty may be perfect gift items With the admonishment, "you spend nearly one-third of your life asleep -- don't waste it," clinical psychologists Phyllis Koch-Sheras and Peter L. Sheras are authors of "The Dream Sourcebook Journal." Maintaining a journal of nocturnal fantasies helps people discover recurring themes and images in dreams -- a process that can spur creativity, say the authors, who created the "bedside companion" with Amy Lemley, a Charlottesville resident who is co-author of several books. In addition to offering tips for creating a dream journal and improving dream recall, the publication contains numerous pages for recording and describing dreams. Koch-Sheras and Sheras, who work extensively with couples in their psychology practice, believe that recording and sharing dreams can enhance relationships. "From the beginning of our relationship more than 25 years ago, we have felt that the couple who dreams together stays together. Discussing our dreams has allowed us to see one another in a special and intimate way. Through dreamwork, we have been able to understand each other more deeply than we might have otherwise," Sheras said. For more information on the book or how chronicling dreams can be fun and enlightening, contact Sheras at (804) 924-0795 or via pls@virginia.edu. The home number is (804) 973-3536. Kids, cat lovers and holiday enthusiasts alike will enjoy "Tales of the Clubhouse Cat (Cont.), A Christmas Tale at That!" This seasonal tale, written by C. Brian Kelly, a U.Va. lecturer in news writing, under the pen name, C.B. Kay, follows a lonely cat on Christmas Eve as she searches for a place to birth her kittens. Behind her, a fox has begun to follow her prints, left by blood-tinged paws raw from the long journey. The holiday heart-warmer is illustrated by Fredericksburg school teacher Ellen Tifft. Kelly and his wife, Ingrid, self-published the book through their company, Montpelier Publishing. The couple has previously published historical books, including "The Blame Game," "Best Little Stories from the Civil War," and "Best Little Stories from the White House." For more information, Kelly can be reached at (804) 924-7105 or (804) 295-3559. ### December 4, 1996
