PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT "PUBLIC CONVERSATION" ON FLUVANNA COUNTY COURTHOUSE REFERENDUM TO BE HELD DEC. 19 AT CARYSBROOK MIDDLE SCHOOL The first of four "Public Conversations" about Fluvanna County's upcoming referendum on relocating its courthouse will be held from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, at Carysbrook Middle School auditorium. The informational discussions on a decision that will powerfully affect Fluvanna County's future are being organized by the University of Virginia's Institute for Environmental Negotiation, which has a long record of helping communities consider important choices. The public meetings, led by neutral facilitators, will provide a comfortable setting for residents to talk and listen about the courthouse issue and to hear important factual information that will help them decide how to vote in the Feb. 4 referendum. The referendum will ask Fluvanna residents whether a new county courthouse should be built on a 900-acre site on Rt. 53, outside the Palmyra town center, and whether the Board of Supervisors should be permitted to spend $5.2 million for the project. The existing historic pre Civil War courthouse in Palmyra no longer meets state standards and would require extensive changes if a new courthouse is not built. The decision has major land-use implications for the county. Future public conversations will be held on the issue in January. Institute for Environmental Negotiation at (804) 924-1970. ### December 13, 1996 START DATE: Immediate KILL DATE: Dec. 20, 1996
