94-02-03 Spring Semester of Minority Youth Enrichmnet Program Set to Begin SPRING SEMESTER OF MINORITY YOUTH ENRICHMENT PROGRAM SET TO BEGIN CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., Feb. 3 -- The Saturday Academy, an academic enrichment program for area minority students in grades 3 to 11, will begin a 10-week spring semester on Feb. 5 at the University of Virginia. According to Rick Turner, program director and dean of U.Va.'s Office of African-American Affairs, one of the key elements in the program's success is that parents and children attend the three-hour Saturday morning classes together. "This fosters a sense of joint participation in learning," he said. Courses this semester will range from math to language arts to African-American history and culture. In addition, the program offers three weeks of SAT preparation in March. Saturday Academy courses are taught by faculty, students and other volunteers from throughout the University. The cost of the program has been reduced from $75 to $50. The SAT prep fee is $25 per student. Interested parents can contact the Office of African-American Affairs at (804) 924-7923 for more information. ### February 2, 1994 [Submitted by: Karen A.
