94-02-09 Casteen, Students and Others Will Address State Budget Issues CASTEEN, STUDENTS AND OTHERS WILL ADDRESS STATE BUDGET ISSUES CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., Feb. 9 -- University of Virginia President John T. Casteen III and a panel of administrators and students will address a number of issues related to the state budget Friday, Feb. 11, at 1 p.m. in the Pavilion XI "Back Room" in Newcomb Hall. The session, titled "Is U.Va. Running out of Money? The Budget, Students and U.Va.," has been organized by students. In addition to Casteen, panelists will include: Colette Capone, vice president for management and budget; Wayne Sparks, director, financial aid; and Michael Mallory, assistant dean of admissions. Student panelists will be Anne Bailey, Student Council president; Damion Samuels, Black Student Alliance president; and Brian Menard, president of the Graduate Student Council. One of the central purposes in planning the event was to give students an opportunity to understand the state budget process, according to Monica Aggarwal, a student organizer. "We want students to comprehend fully where the money comes from and where it goes," she said.
