Freire, a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Medicine, has been named Director of the Office of Technology Transfer (OTT), which serves as the principal agent for the research institutions of the Public Health Service -- the NIH, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Food and Drug Administration -- in carrying out the technology transfer policies of the U.S. Government. Freire earned her Ph.D. degree in biophysics at U.Va. in 1981, and has completed postgraduate work in immunology at the University and in virology at the University of Tennessee. ### February 7, 1995
