PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT


POET LAUREATE RITA DOVE TO APPEAR
 ON "SESAME STREET" THIS WEEK

	U.S. Poet Laureate Rita Dove will make a guest appearance
this week on the PBS "Sesame Street" children's program.  Dove, who
is Commonwealth Professor of English at the University of Virginia,
uses innovative methods to promote poetry and literacy as widely as
possible in America.  On "Sesame Street" she will read a specially
written poem about "Big Bird."  In the Central Virginia area, the
program featuring Dove will air from 3 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9,
on WVPT-TV, Harrisonburg, and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Friday, Feb.
10, on WHTJ-TV, Charlottesville, and WCVE-TV, Richmond.
