MEDIA ADVISORY EMERGENCY MEDICAL CREWS TO STUDY SURVIVAL More than 100 emergency air medical crew members from several states will participate in a winter survival training exercise Friday, Feb. 23, to Sunday, Feb. 25, in Madison County. The exercise is sponsored by the University of Virginia Pegasus Air Transport Service with assistance by the U.S. Marine Corp and the U.S. Coast Guard. In its ninth year, Winter Survival '96 is designed to teach crew members, pilots and others survival techniques after an aircraft crash in a winter environment. Lectures will be held at the Madison County Rescue Squad Building. Field exercises will be conducted on a 300-acre farm in Hood. Survival skills, including signaling, fire building, shelter construction, finding alternative food and water sources, and orientating with map and compass will be taught. Advanced survival skills will be explored in an overnight field exercise.
