MEDIA ADVISORY WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION, UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA OFFICIALS TO MEET Officials of the World Health Organization have selected the University of Virginia as one of several American universities who may serve as collaborators in a project to support health development in African countries. The officials will visit U.Va. on Wednesday, Feb. 26 and Thursday, Feb. 27 to communicate their needs to faculty and administrators in medicine, nursing, business, law, education, international studies and other relevant fields. The University will then develop appropriate strategies to help meet those countriesÕ specific needs. Similar delegations have previously met with officials at Emory University in Atlanta and the University of California-Los Angeles. The visiting delegation will be led by Dr. Yuji Kawaguchi, director of the Division of Interagency Affairs at WHO headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, and Dr. Ata Amini, a consultant to the Division of Interagency Affairs. It will include academic and governmental representatives from Ghana, Namibia, South Africa, Ethiopia and Kenya. After state and University officials formally welcome the delegation on the morning of Feb. 26, Kawaguchi will give an introductory address. U.Va. officials will offer an overview of the UniversityÕs resources in the afternoon session. On Feb. 27, representatives of the countries will outline their priorities in a series of presentations.
