TO OFFER STUDENTS INSIGHTS INTO WORKPLACE ISSUES, JOB-SEARCH PROCESS University of Virginia students will gain leads on jobs and tips on job searches during the 12th Annual Arts and Sciences Alumni Career Forum on Saturday, Feb. 27. Titled "Get Connected: This is the Way the World Works," the event will take place from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in several buildings on the U.Va. Grounds. Julie Lynn, vice president of production at the Fresh Produce Film Company, will speak at 9:30 a.m. in the Newcomb Hall Ballroom. Lynn, who earned both a bachelor's degree in foreign affairs and drama and a law degree from U.Va., will stress to the graduating students the importance of getting to know themselves before attempting to make connections in the business world. After her talk, the forum will offer panel discussions on careers and workplace issues. Among the topics participants can choose are "Life Around the Watercooler: Dealing with Office Politics," "Careers for Idealists" and "What I Look for in a New Hire." Alumni are good sources of information on jobs and search strategies, according to Emily Bardeen, an assistant director in U.Va.'s Office of Career Planning and Placement (OCPP). "The Arts and Sciences Alumni Career Forum gives students the opportunity to obtain quality information and advice by attending panels of interest and asking questions that will aid them in their future endeavors," Bardeen said. The last session in the event will be a Networking Coffee, bringing together students, alumni, administrators and faculty. The coffee will begin at 1:15 p.m. in the Newcomb Hall Ballroom.
