CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA., Jan. 16 -- Magda Stayton has been named assistant vice president for development at the University of Virginia Health Sciences Center. Stayton has been serving as director of corporate and foundation relations for Health Sciences Development since 1993. She came to the U.Va. School of Medicine as a major gifts officer in December 1992. Her appointment, announced by J.A. Knight, associate vice president for health sciences development, was effective November 1. "Ms. Stayton has developed a superb corporate and foundation relations program which will have significant, long-term impact on the Health Sciences Center," Knight said. "She has assumed major responsibilities for the fund-raising campaign and works well with the faculty. She carries out her tasks with competence and good humor. This promotion is richly deserved." Prior to joining Health Sciences Center fund-raising efforts, Stayton served as senior development writer for the Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park, New York. From 1988 to 1991, she coordinated trustee education programs at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, New York. She is a certified health education specialist and has held a variety of health education and social work positions at St. John's Hospital and Health Center in Santa Monica, California, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and U.C.L.A. Medical Center. Stayton holds a bachelor's degree in sociology and a master's degree in health administration. She and her husband, Larry, and their son, Connor, live in Ivy.
