KAMESHA SMITH SELECTED TO REPRESENT THE UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA AT NATIONAL STUDENT LEADERSHIP CONGRESS IN WASHINGTON, D.C. CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., June 2 -- Kamesha Smith, a junior at Albemarle High School, has been selected to represent the University of Virginia's Upward Bound program at the National Council of Educational Opportunity Associations' (NCEOA) fifth annual National Student Leadership Congress June 4-9 in Washington, D.C. Student representatives are participants in the federally funded Upward Bound and Talent Search programs, which provide counseling and instructional services to help students enroll in and graduate from college. The theme for this year's leadership congress is community service, with an emphasis on citizen participation in decision- making processes affecting federal policy and national priorities. Students will participate in a mock congressional hearing on the President's National Service Program and its implications for lower-income and disadvantaged students. They also will visit local community service programs, including food banks, learning centers and senior citizen programs, to get a closer look at how volunteer programs serve the community and to participate in a community service project. Ms. Smith is the daughter of Lillian M. Jackson and Alexander Smith. ### June 1, 1994 Karen A. Castle University News Office kac@uva.pcmail.virginia.edu (804) 924-7116 [Submitted by: Karen A.
