MEDIA ADVISORY PUBLICATION OF ÔVIRGINIA LANDMARKS IN BLACK HISTORYÕ TO BE CELEBRATED JUNE 21 IN RICHMOND The University Press of Virginia and the Virginia Department of Historic Resources will sponsor a reception to celebrate the publication of a significant new book about the state, ÕVirginia Landmarks of Black History,Ó Wednesday, June 21, in Richmond. News media are cordially invited to attend the event from 6 to 8 p.m. at Old City Hall, 1001 East Broad St. The book, edited by Calder Loth, the historic resources departmentÕs senior architectural historian, depicts 64 sites of black history that have been officially designated as landmarks. Some sites are well known, but many others have been ignored by history. The book in part attempts to redress the failure of previous guides to recognize the contributions of African-Americans to the stateÕs heritage. The bookÕs foreward is by former Gov. L. Douglas Wilder. The University PressÕs series editor is University of Virginia history professor Armstead L. Robinson, director of the Carter G. Woodson Institute. Loth, Robinson and Wilder, if he is able to attend the event, will be available for interviews. For additional information or a review-copy of the book, contact Mary Kathryn Hassett at the University Press, (804) 924-6064. Copies of the book will also be available for news media at the reception. ### June 16, 1995
