CHILDREN'S MEDICAL CENTER CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA., June 3--Volunteers helped to raise $705,578 for the University of Virginia's Children's Medical Center during the 21-hour Children's Miracle Network's telethon that aired from 8 a.m. Saturday to 6:30 p.m. Sunday on NBC Channel 29. This year's total exceeded last year's by $49,000. Of the 165 medical facilities participating in the nationwide telethon, U.Va. consistently raises the most money per capita, according to telethon officials. All donations raised from the Charlottesville and surrounding counties will go toward supporting pediatric outpatient services, where children receive treatment ranging from routine check-ups to day surgery. The CMC, organized in 1984, treats more than 66,000 children from acrose central Virginia and beyond. ### June 3, 1996
