DARDEN'S EXECUTIVE EDUCATION SUMMER PROGRAM DRAWS THE BEST AND THE BRIGHTEST FROM AROUND THE WORLD CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., June 24 -- Rising corporate stars from around the world have gathered at the University of Virginia's Darden School to study American business know-how. Darden's 40th offering of The Executive Program (TEP) started June 2 and will run through the second week in July. The six-week program, which was ranked best in the country by participants in "Business Week's Guide to the Best Executive Education Programs" in 1993, the most recent ranking, has drawn 96 executives from 22 countries. "Because of the nature of global business, many executives find it essential to take the time to study the competitive dynamics of their industries and search for the best ideas to restructure and refocus their firms," said Brandt R. Allen, associate dean for executive education. "TEP is designed to provide just such an opportunity." The program is designed for senior managers who undergo an intensive, interactive program that combines an integrated curriculum, case studies and class discussions with teaching by top-flight faculty. The mini-M.B.A. format is designed to return the participants to their jobs with new skills, renewed enthusiasm, and the vision needed to lead their companies into the coming millennium. The list of past participants reads like a Who's Who of world business and government. It includes AT&T, CIBA-GEIGY Corp., IBM Corp., Glaxo Wellcome plc, Gold Fields of S.A., Ltd., New Zealand Dairy Board, Saudi Aramco, Union Bank of Switzerland and the U.S. Navy. A comment by Marcus B. Bradsher, general manager of Parras Cone De Mexico, a participant in last year's program, is typical: "The remaining 25 to 30 percent of my career will be focused on international/global initiatives, and TEP '96 was a unique experience to contemplate the vast complexities and challenges to help prepare me for the future." The cost of TEP '97 is $24,500, which includes tuition, study materials, lodging, most meals and a program at the Brookings Institution in Washington. Darden's executive education division will be offering more than 90 programs to over 3,000 participants in the coming year. ### June 23, 1997 For more information, call Brandt R.
