94-03-18 Environmental Educator David Orr to Make Public Presentations at U.Va. April 11 ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATOR DAVID ORR TO MAKE PUBLIC PRESENTATIONS AT U.VA. APRIL 11 CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., March 18 -- David Orr, a leading environmental educator, will make two public presentations at the University of Virginia on April 11. Orr, chair of the environmental studies department at Oberlin College and founder of the Meadowcreek Educational Project, will speak at noon in Campbell Hall Room 153 as part of a School of Architecture series on environmental issues, in commemoration of Thomas Jefferson's birthday. At 7 p.m. at the same location he will participate in a teachers' workshop and public presentation titled "Ecological Literacy: Education for the Long Haul." The workshop is sponsored by the Living Education Center for Ecology and the Arts, in conjunction with the Tandem Center for the Environment, and the U.Va. Institute for Environmental Negotiation. The presentation will address the basic ecological responsibilities of education and ways that participants might become active in implementing positive changes both in and out of the classroom. Orr is the education editor of Conservation Biology and author of "Ecological Literacy and the Transition to a Postmodern World"; "The Campus and Environmental Responsibility"; and "The Global Predicament: Ecological Perspective on World Order." The presentations are free and open to the public. Teachers of all subjects, disciplines and grade levels are invited to attend.
