EMS CREWS TO STUDY SURVIVAL More than 100 emergency air medical crew members from 11 states and Canada will participate in a training program March 3 to March 5 in Madison County. Survival '95, hosted by the University of Virginia Pegasus Air Transport Service, will teach "hard landing" (emergency crash landings) techniques at the Madison County Rescue Squad building and on a 300-acre farm in Hood. Instructor will also teach skills for surviving after an escape from an aircraft crash. Classes in signaling, fire and shelter building, food and water sources, physical and mental fitness, and map and compass use will be offered. The Pegasus has been conducting safety and survival training for eight years. Other participants include U.S. Marines, Quantico; Virginia Civil Air Patrol; Appalachian Search and Rescue; Corporate Jets Pilots, Pittsburgh; Maryland State Police, and North Carolina Baptist Hospital. COURSE SCHEDULE Friday, March 3 7 a.m.-noon--Instructor course, Rescue Squad Building, Madison County 12:30 p.m.--Field orientation, Hood Saturday, March 4 7:30 a.m.- Survival lecture, Sheraton Hotel, Charlottesville 12:30 p.m.-Field orientation, Hood (overnight course, using basic skills learned in classroom).
